Theoretical Orientation counselling

Theoretical Orientation counselling
Polemics have arisen among the advocates of the various theoretical approaches. Because comparisons of the effectiveness of the various approaches are difficult and often ambiguous, the argument are often dialectic in nature. Clients with similar problems or goals will receive very different treatment depending on the orientation of the counsellor. The differences among proponents of the approaches point out the lack of understanding of human nature and therapeutic change. Recently, there have been many attempts to reconcile these differences. Coldfried (1980) has attempted to do this by identifying principles of behaviour change that are common to all approaches. The two most prominent principles are providing the client with new and corrective experience and giving client direct feedback.
