What precautions should be taken before prescribing sildenifil?
To prevent any unwanted events, following precautions should be taken before starting sildenafil therapy.
1. Take detailed medical history and do complete physical examination, including that of the penis.
2. Assess the status of the cardiovascular & respiratory systems by
examining blood pressure & ECG. Do treadmill test, if required.
3. Do fundus examination
4. List all the other drugs, the patient might be taking.
5. Men must be warned of the danger of taking sildenafil 24 hours before or after taking a nitrate preparation.
