Press Trust of India (PTI) was established on August 27,1947 when it took over from the Associated Press of India (API) and Reuters. It started functioning from February 1,1949. It offers its news services in English and Hindi languages. Its other services include mailer packages of feature, science service, economic service and data India, and screenbased services as News-scan and Stock scan.

PTI TV is its television wing which produces corporate documentaries on assignment basis. It has over 80 bureaux in the country. Bhasha is the Hindi language news service of the Agency.
