Doordarshan Channels

The number of televisions in India sets increased from around 500,000 in 1976 to around 47 million in 1994; increases are expected to continue at around 6 million sets per year. Moreover, while the early 90s saw mostly black and white sets, demand for colour sets is increasing at faster rate. With the growth of viewers, channels of Doordarshan have also multiplied gradually. As of now, Doordarshan has 25 channels.

DD National and DD News DD Sports, DD Bharti, DD India, DD Gyan Darshan are to name a few, of which, except the first two, all other channels are available only in satellite mode. Most of the regional satellite channels including Metro, are now available on a single satellite. The cable operators can, therefore catch all the channels with a single dish.
